The City’s newly appointed title deed agents and Human Settlements Mayco Member, Councillor Carl Pophaim, are overjoyed as they’ve found a centenarian homeowner in Maitland and handed over her title deed. Efforts to find historic beneficiaries of City saleable units, newer subsidy and old RDP housing who have never received title deeds have been stepped up with a service provider appointed to solve the more difficult historic cases. Title deeds prove ownership and is an important document when it comes to wills and banking loans, among others.

'Wow, this has been the most amazing experience and I am overjoyed that we tracked down our elder homeowner to give her title deed. As part of our new Deed-to-Door campaign, we have appointed title deed agents to track down beneficiaries that have never received their title deeds. Often, details have not been updated so we cannot find them, or they have moved out of the metro and other details are lacking. With the dedicated team going door-to-door to find and verify details, we are pulling out all stops to track down the 17 000 beneficiaries of especially very old housing projects that still require their deeds.
‘I am joining teams, going door-to-door to deliver title deeds. A title deed is so important when it comes to proving ownership, for purposes of wills and banking loans among others. We’re building on the success of last year’s Festive Deeds Challenge, where we delivered more than 1 000 title deeds to beneficiaries across the metro in just a few months. This time around, we are aiming to deliver even more. We ask our beneficiaries to please update their details at their local housing office,’ said Councillor Pophaim.

Our easily-identifiable title deed agents will be visiting you to verify ownership details.
Once verified, you’ll need these documents:
· Owner ID, and spouse ID, if applicable.
· Marriage certificate, if applicable.
· In the event of a death of a recipient, please provide a Letter of Authority, and a Death Certificate or a Will.
If you missed the team, bring along the required documents and visit us at the Cape Town Civic Centre, 2nd Floor Human Settlements Kiosk.
