Over the course of nine blitz outreach events across Cape Town since January last year, officials assisted 780 residents with new Jobseeker Database registrations, while 958 existing jobseekers updated their details, ensuring that 1 738 residents are better positioned to be considered for Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) and other labour-intensive opportunities.
By taking services directly to residents, the blitz programme enables the Public Empowerment and Development Department to raise awareness of available employment pathways, explain application processes and ensure that community members’ information is captured accurately for fair and transparent selection processes.
‘Participation in the Mayor’s Service Delivery Blitz events allows the City to engage residents where they live, so they are informed about work opportunities and they can be assisted with registering or updating their details on the Jobseeker Database. This kind of outreach is essential to expanding access and ensuring that more residents can benefit from employment initiatives.
‘Residents who were unable to attend the Blitz events are encouraged to register or update their details on the Jobseeker Database at their nearest sub-council office, Smartcape Centre or the City walk-in centre at 50 Wale Street. The City will continue to use community outreach initiatives to ensure that more residents are aware and able to access employment support programmes,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, Alderman Grant Twigg.
