Maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements
Residents are advised to store enough water in advance as a precautionary measure. Water should be stored in clean, sealed containers. This precaution does not guarantee all residents will have a water disruption, but it aims to ensure they are able to prepare in the event it does occur.
Planned maintenance work will result in water supply disruption to these areas:
Part of Wynberg
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to part of Wynberg from 08:30 until 18:00 on Tuesday, 3 February 2026. This shut-off will enable the maintenance team to safely connect the newly installed pipelines in Devonshire and Vriedenhof Roads to the existing infrastructure at the corners of Devonshire Road and Piers Road, Vriedenhof Road and Mortimer Road and Vriedenhof Road and Cogill Road in Wynberg. An additional valve will also be installed on the corner of Main Road and Piers Road.
The water supply will also be temporarily shut off to part of Wynberg from 20:00 on Thursday, 5 February 2026 until 05:00 on Friday, 6 February 2026. This shut-off will allow maintenance teams to safely connect the newly installed pipelines to the existing infrastructure at the corners of Egglestone Road and Main Road, and Langley Road and Main Road in Wynberg. An additional valve will also be installed on the corner of Main Road and Piers Road. These roads and possibly surrounding roads will experience no water during this period.
Part of Lansdowne and Wetton
The water supply will be temporarily shut off to Racecourse Road (from Leafmore Road to Waterloo Road), Leafmore Road (from Racecourse Road to Rockford Road), as well as Waterloo Road, Block Road, Haroldene Road, Woodbury Road, Brockhurst Road, Pinehurst Road, Stockley Road (from Racecourse Road to Ladbrook Road) and Belgravia Avenue from 09:00 until 17:00 on Tuesday, 3 February 2026. This test shut-off will enable the maintenance team to safely remove a redundant pipeline from the existing water supply infrastructure. Affected roads and possibly surrounding areas will experience no water during this period.
Part of Noordhoek and Chapman’s Peak
The water supply will be temporarily shut off to parts of Noordhoek and Chapman’s Peak from 09:00 until 17:00 on Tuesday, 3 February 2026. This will allow the maintenance team to safely connect a bulk water meter to the existing water supply infrastructure at the intersection of Noordhoek Main Road and Lakeshore Drive as part of the completion of the tie-in connection for the Lake Michelle Residential Estate. These areas will experience no water during this period.
Part of Sarepta
The water supply will be temporarily shut off to part of Sarepta from 08:00 until 17:00 on Tuesday, 3 February 2026. This will allow the maintenance team to install a bypass pipeline to supply residents along Mission Road between Jana and Reuter Streets. This work will help prevent future water supply disruptions while the treated effluent pipeline is installed in the area. Affected roads and possibly surrounding areas will experience no water during this period.
Part of Eureka Estate - Elsies River
The water supply will be temporarily shut off to the area bounded by 35th Street, Connaught Road, 42nd Avenue and Owen Road in Eureka Estate, Elsies River, from 09:00 until 18:00 on Tuesday, 3 February 2026, and again from 09:00 until 18:00 on Thursday, 5 February 2026. This will allow maintenance teams to safely connect the newly laid water main to the existing water mains along 42nd Avenue. The affected area and possibly surrounding areas will experience no water during these periods.
Mitchells Plain
The water supply will be temporarily shut off to Mitchells Plain from 09:00 until 17:00 on Tuesday, 3 February 2026. This temporary shut-off will allow the maintenance team to assess the impact in preparation for the planned shut-off from 09:00 until 18:00 on Wednesday, 11 February 2026. The work will enable important alterations to the 840mm diameter bulk distribution pipeline serving the area. Consumers in parts of Mitchells Plain may experience low water pressure or no water during these periods. Residents and businesses are kindly requested to store enough water in advance in clean sealed containers for domestic use during this period.
Part of Tamboerskloof
The water supply will be temporarily shut off to parts of Tamboerskloof between Davenport Road, Milner Road and Poyser Street from 09:00 until 16:00 on Wednesday, 4 February 2026. This will allow maintenance teams to replace a faulty fire hydrant in Poyser Street. Affected roads and possibly surrounding areas will experience no water during this period.
Part of Rondebosch
The water supply will be temporarily shut off to Gambonia Road and Ian Road, between Milner Road and Stuart Road, from Ian Road to Avenue de Mist, as well as possibly surrounding roads, from 09:00 until 17:00 on Wednesday, 4 February 2026. This will allow maintenance teams to install a bypass on the water supply main in Gambonia Road, Ian Road and possibly Garfield Road. Affected roads will experience no water during this period.
Part of Hanover Park and Lansdowne
The water supply will be temporarily shut off to parts of Hanover Park and Lansdowne along Govan Mbeki Drive between Jan Smuts Drive and Hanover Park Avenue from 09:00 until 18:00 on Tuesday, 10 February 2026. This will allow maintenance teams to safely connect the newly installed 305mm diameter pipeline to the existing water supply infrastructure. Affected areas and possibly surrounding roads will experience no water during this period. Where possible, an alternate water supply will be rerouted. Residents and businesses are kindly requested to store enough water in advance in clean, sealed containers.
This work forms part of the Water and Sanitation Directorate’s proactive infrastructure maintenance and upgrade programme, which ensures the future continuity of water supply by addressing the issue of unaccounted for water.
Zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments will be done on the water supply network resulting in water supply disruptions in the following areas:
Tuesday, 3 February 2026, from 09:30 until 16:30: Panorama.
Tuesday, 3 February 2026, from 09:00 until 16:00: Ottery.
Tuesday, 3 February 2026, from 09:00 until 16:00: Kraaifontein, Peerless Park East, Peerless Park West, Scottsville and Eikendal.
Wednesday, 4 February 2026, from 09:00 until 16:00: Sun Valley, Fairie Knowe, Sunnydale and Hazelwood Park.
Wednesday, 4 February 2026, from 09:00 until 16:00: Protea Valley and Door De Kraal.
Zero-pressure testing and step-testing are part of the installation process for zone management infrastructure. Tests are done in advance to see if any unmapped inflows need to be considered before installing new infrastructure (such as pressure-reducing valves for pressure management).
In these affected areas, some residents may experience low water pressure while some may have no water during the testing period. Unfortunately, it is not possible to predict which exact areas or streets will experience disruptions.
Additional zone management investigations will be carried out to ensure that the existing infrastructure is operating effectively. Pressure fluctuations may be experienced, but every effort will be made to minimise the impact as far as possible.
This work forms part of the City’s Water Demand Management Strategy. Managing water pressure more effectively reduces the possibility of pipe bursts and water wastage.
The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience.
What residents need to know about larger-scale planned water supply disruptions:
1. Careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to ensure it is being done at a time that is least disruptive to the water supply.
2. All sites where water and sanitation repairs and upgrades are conducted are deemed to be construction sites and, as such, are off-limits to members of the public.
3. Sometimes the maintenance work can be more complex than anticipated, which means the work could take longer.
4. For a short period after the supply has been restored, the water may be discoloured or look milky. This is because of trapped air in the pipes. If left to stand in a glass, the appearance will become clear, like normal.

How residents are advised to prepare for planned water supply disruptions:
1. Store enough water in clean, sealed containers in advance for use during this period.
2. Keep your taps closed to prevent any water loss and/or damage when the water supply is restored.
