Parow Park resident, Mr Ismail de Jongh, 58, was overjoyed as he received the key to a Community Residential Unit (CRU) this morning, 20 May 2024. Mr De Jongh had updated his contact details on the City’s Housing Needs Register just a few weeks ago while visiting a City roadshow event, allowing the City to reach out to him about a rental opportunity. Mr De Jongh took the initiative to meet the City on his doorstep and now is the beneficiary of a City rental opportunity. The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Carl Pophaim, celebrated with Mr De Jongh and congratulated him for taking the opportunity to reach out to the City.

'The City has a range of housing opportunities available and we are thrilled when a beneficiary is matched with an opportunity. That is exactly what happened with Mr De Jongh here today and we are looking forward to seeing this happen with other beneficiaries. From Breaking New Ground and Gap, to Flisp and CRUs, there is an opportunity to suit every resident’s needs and financial status.
‘We know that the application process can be confusing. All beneficiaries are encouraged to visit their nearest housing office for more details on the options and the application process involved. We are excited to celebrate with even more beneficiaries and their families as we help more residents move into their new homes. Key to this, is being able to contact the residents and it is important that all residents update their details on the Housing Needs Register,’ said Councillor Pophaim.
