The City's mowing operations are under way, with teams actively working and expanding their operations. Residents can expect mowing maintenance across various areas as preparations for the upcoming season continue.
The Recreation and Parks Department manages extensive grassed areas across the city.
This year, higher-than-usual rainfall and early growth patterns have contributed to a faster spring growth period.
The combination of abundant moisture and rising daytime temperatures has led to rapid overgrowth in public open spaces and road reserves.
City-wide mowing operations are steadily expanding and progressing well.
Teams will also work extended hours, where possible, including weekends, to accelerate progress and address priority areas.
‘We are committed to maintaining our green spaces, and our teams are ramping up their operations to meet demand. Mowing is a topic that is close to the heart of many residents in our city, and we thank them for their patience. Our teams are working diligently to get to all the public open spaces that require mowing, while adhering to the no-mow schedule for specifically identified areas until the end of November,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia van der Ross.
The ‘no mow’ drive aims to protect ecological processes that promote the growth of distinctive Fynbos vegetation. So, between August and the end of November, no mowing takes place at specific public open spaces, to allow for spring flowers and a variety of indigenous plants to bloom and seed.

The City expects all mowing activities in areas that are not part of the no mow list to be fully operational within the next two to three weeks.
