The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will be doing planned work in the identified areas, which will result in water supply disruption. This critical maintenance work is done on our water-supply infrastructure to benefit customers. Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to take note of the work that will take place and prepare accordingly. Read more below:
Zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments will be done on the water supply network in the following areas:
Thursday, 26 September 2024, from 09:00 until 17:00: Vredekloof, Welgelee, Arauna, Morgenster, St Kilda, Marlborough Park, Brackenfell Industrial and Okavango Park in Brackenfell and Brackenfell South.
Zero-pressure testing and step-testing are part of the installation process for zone management infrastructure. Tests are done in advance, to see if any unmapped inflows need to be considered before installing new infrastructure (such as pressure reducing valves for pressure management).
In these affected areas, some residents may experience low water pressure, and some may have no water coming out of their taps for some time during the testing period.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to predict which exact areas or streets will experience disruptions.
Additional zone management investigations will be carried out to ensure that existing infrastructure is operating effectively. Pressure fluctuations may be experienced, but every effort will be made to minimise the impact as far as possible.
This work forms part of the City’s Water Demand Management Strategy. Managing water pressure more effectively reduces the possibility of pipe bursts and water wastage.
Planned Maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements
Residents are advised to store enough water in advance, as a precautionary measure. Water should ideally be stored in clean, sealed containers.
Gunners Circle – Epping Industria
The water supply to this area will be shut off from 09:00 until 19:00 on Wednesday, 25 September 2024. This will enable the maintenance team to safely do a connection on the main water supply pipeline to this area. This will improve the management of future water supply shut-offs in this area. Affected consumers need to please store enough water in clean sealed containers in advance.
Century City and part of Milnerton
The Water and Sanitation Directorate will be doing a test shut-off on the main water supply pipeline to these areas from 10:00 until 14:00on Thursday, 26 September 2024. This will ascertain the areas that will be impacted during the actual shut-off to repair a leaking water main in Sable Road adjacent to the N1. The date for the shut-off to do the repairs will be communicated shortly thereafter. Affected consumers need to please store enough water in clean sealed containers in advance.
Koeberg Power Station, 13th to 22nd Avenue Melkbosstrand, Ou Skip Caravan Park and Melkbosstrand Village
The Water and Sanitation Directorate will be shutting off the 600mm diameter water main in Otto Du Plessis Drive from 08:00 until 20:00 on Thursday, 26 September 2024. This will enable the maintenance team to safely repair a severe leak on the pipeline. The Koeberg Power Station and residents in Thirteenth to Twenty Second Avenue in Melkbosstrand and Ou Skip Caravan Park will experience low water pressure during this period. Residents in Melkbosstrand Village will however experience no water. Water tankers will be made available to provide water where required. Affected residents in this area are also advised to please store water in clean sealed containers in advance.
This work forms part of the Water and Sanitation Directorate’s proactive infrastructure maintenance and upgrade programme, which ensures the future continuity of water supply by addressing the issue of unaccounted for water.
The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience.
