Zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments will be done on the water supply network in the following areas:
Tuesday, 28 May 2024, from 09:00 until 16:00: Claremont, Rondebosch, Kenilworth
Thursday, 30 May 2024, from 10:00 until 16:00: Claremont, Rondebosch, Kenilworth
Pressure management installations and operations
Zero-pressure testing and step-testing are part of the installation process for pressure management technology. Tests are done in advance to see if any unmapped inflows need to be considered before installing smart pressure-reducing valves (PRVs).
In these affected areas, some residents may experience low water pressure, and some may have no water coming out of their taps for some time during this testing period. It is not possible to predict which areas or streets will experience disruptions.
Conditional testing on the other hand ensures that the pressure-reducing valves in the water supply network are operating effectively and managing the pressures at the determined settings to preserve the lifespan of the pipeline and reduce the occurrence of water wastage resulting from pipe bursts. Pressure fluctuations may be experienced, but will be minimised as far as possible.
This work forms part of the City’s Water Demand Management Strategy. Managing water pressure more effectively reduces the possibility of pipe bursts and water wastage.
Maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements
Residents are kindly requested to store enough water as a precautionary measure as this work will result in water supply disruption to these areas:
Llandudno
Two valves will be replaced in the pressure reducing valve (PRV) chamber on the main water supply pipeline to Llandudno from 09:00 until 16:00 on Monday, 27 May 2024. The PRV will also be removed for assessment in their workshop. The area will be supplied through the by-pass from 27 May to 30 May 2024.
Gordon’s Bay
A meter and pressure reducing valve (PRV) installation will be done on the main water supply to the Suikerbossie Street and Protea Street areas in Gordon’s Bay. This will result in the disruption of the water supply from 10:00 until 17:00 Tuesday, 28 May 2024.
Oakdale – Bellville
A meter installation will be done on the main water supply to the Oakdale area in Bellville. This will result in the disruption of the water supply from 09:00 until 16:00 Thursday, 30 May 2024.
Montchere – Somerset West
A meter and pressure reducing valve (PRV) installation will be done on the main water supply to the Montchere area in Somerset West. This will result in the disruption of the water supply from 10:00 until 17h00 Thursday, 30 May 2024.
Parts of Southfield
The water supply to Gull Road, Southfield, will be temporarily shut off from 08:00 until 18:00 on Thursday, 30 May 2024 so thatconstruction work on the main water supply to the area can be completed safely. The maintenance team will be connecting the newly-installed water pipeline along Gull Road to the existing water pipelines along Gull Road, Princess Vlei Road and Tegul Road. This will result in the disruption of water supply along Gull Road, Princess Vlei Road, Tegul Road and surrounding areas in Southfield during this period.
This work forms part of the Water and Sanitation Directorate’s proactive infrastructure maintenance and upgrade programme which ensures the future continuity of water supply by addressing the issue of unaccounted for water.
The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience.
