The City of Cape Town’s Urban Waste Management Directorate is unfortunately experiencing widespread waste collection delays due to the impact of the recent rains.
Read more below:
Flooding is hindering the movement and operation of waste compactors and collection teams throughout the city. Intense rainfall has also affected operations at disposal facilities and reduced staff availability as conditions take their toll on the workforce.
Reminders:
• Please do not resort to dumping as we will work to clear any backlogs as quickly as conditions allow.
• If your waste is not removed as expected, please take the bin out each day until it has been emptied. In some cases where bins are not accessible, they will only be serviced after the floodwater has drained.
• If you are struggling with containing all household refuse in the wheelie bin, we advise that recycling and composting can help. Residents can find helpful information on how to compost and recycle on the City’s website: capetown.gov.za/Family and home/greener-living/recycling-at-home/recycling-guide and capetown.gov.za/Family and home/greener-living/green-gardening-and-eating/start-composting-at-home
The City’s UWM sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused during this time and will make every effort to service your bin as soon as its possible.
