The Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, Alderman James Vos, was on-hand with City officials and business partners, lending support by engaging with residents on skills development opportunities, assisting with Jobs Connect registrations and handling small business queries.

‘By bringing this activation to Mitchells Plain, our Jobs Connect and Business Hub officials can meet residents where they are and help them on the spot. Seeing the long queues of people wanting assistance shows both the dire need for employment and business support services, but it also shows that Capetonians will put their hands up to grab opportunities. This activation is all about making those opportunities as accessible as possible.

‘I am very chuffed with the number of small businesses participating in our enterprise development programmes. During 2025, about 5 816 participants registered for workshops and training sessions covering essential topics such as tendering, small procurement, pricing, marketing and supplier development. These are the key building blocks to help set up a business and scale operations, and it is incredibly encouraging to see such strong engagement from local entrepreneurs,’ said Alderman Vos.

Hundreds of residents also signed onto the Jobs Connect digital platform and were able to immediately start looking for employment in their areas.

‘We also had an international call centre operator, TP, on site where jobseekers were screened and guided through the recruitment process. Successful candidates will do an online assessment before they receive training and begin work,’ said Alderman Vos.

The Economic Growth Directorate is planning similar activations in other areas later in the year.
