The City’s Public Housing maintenance teams visited the Cape Oil Community Residential Units (CRUs) in the Gugulethu area to carry out important maintenance and upgrades. The City is investing more than R1,2 billion over the next few years at CRUs across the metro to carry out maintenance, repairs and upgrades.
Human Settlements Mayco Member, Councillor Carl Pophaim, visited the units to check on the maintenance work being carried out.
‘It is always pleasing to see the work which is being completed at our units. As one of the biggest landlords in South Africa, with thousands of units and tenants, we take the wellbeing of residents and the upkeep of units seriously. Some of the work carried out in Manenberg included plumbing, electrical repairs, carpentry and general area cleaning. The repairs to the units were examples of the quality work which our skilled workers carry out on a daily basis across the metro.
‘We recently launched a Public Housing campaign to improve safety and carry out maintenance work at our residential units in a dignified manner. We aim to improve the quality of life for our residents as we create safer and more comfortable living spaces. I always look forward to these visits and having the opportunity to engage with residents. They are why we do this work. I encourage our tenants to report all maintenance needs at their units to 021 444 0333. Public housing only works if we work together. I thank Team Cape Town for standing with us to create more comfortable homes for our residents,’ said Councillor Pophaim.
